The quality of the air we breathe is more of an issue today, than it ever was. The function of a standard one inch air filter is to keep the heating and/or cooling equipment and related ductwork clean, not the air in your home.

While these filters do take large dust and other particles out of the air, they are not air cleaning systems.Another important air quality component is your homes humidity level. One of the main functions of a central air conditioning system is to de-humidify the air as it cools.Cool dry air feels much more comfortable than cool damp air. At the same time, air that is heated and dried out feels cooler than heated air with humidity added.

warmer at a lower actual indoor temperature. This allows you to keep your thermostat set lower, reducing energy costs. Added humidity also helps reduce that annoying dry nose and throat feeling.


		Elm Air Conditioning services and maintains most manufacturers' air cleaners and humidifiers. On new installations, we favor the Aprilaire product line. They manufacture a variety of air cleaners and humidifiers to fit many applications. Whole house humidifiers are available for homes with steam or baseboard heat, as well as those with forced hot air. We never recommend installing a humidifier in any location where there is a possibility of freezing temperatures, such as an attic or knee wall.
