There
are instances where a "central"
air conditioning system just isn't practical. These would
include large one or two room extensions, where the new
rooms have very different characteristics than the rest
of the house, or the existing system is not large enough
to accommodate the new space.
Another
situation could be a renovation where skylights and vaulted
ceilings are added and the current system can't accommodate
the added load. To cool these spaces a ductless air conditioning
system could be installed. This system could be the primary
system, or could supplement the existing system. These units
are also available with limited heating capabilities.
